Al Khuwair is less of a must-visit destination, rather it’s somewhere convenient that perfectly locates you between the city’s sights and the airport, the best place to stay in Muscat for those short on time. The lack of local museums and cultural hot spots doesn’t mean that it has nothing to commend it though, this lively neighborhood is bustling with great restaurants and malls – plenty to keep you entertained.
Muscat Plaza Hotel – One of the cheapest hotels in Muscat, this is the budget stay that does everything you need it to: air-conditioned rooms to keep you cool, filling breakfasts to set you up for the day and a restaurant in case you don’t want to have to seek out dinner further afield.
Park Inn by Radisson Muscat – Al Khuwair might not be the cultural centre of the city but this hotel ensures its guests won’t be bored. The Juice Bar will keep the health nuts happy as they fill up on smoothies and snacks whilst the two (yes two) rooftop pools will please any sun lover.
You might find yourself jetting in and out of Muscat with only a few hours to spare, in which case, your best bet will be to stay close to the airport to make catching your flight that little bit easier. It might sound a bit depressing but there are some great spots to stay nearby and you’re just a 30-minute drive to the main sights so you can still explore or head out for a delicious dinner.
The nearby Al Mouj is an elegant coastline community with plenty to recommend it, with waterfront restaurants, a shopping mall, marina, and even an 18 hole golf course.
OYO 109 Al Thabit Modern Hotel Apartment – Less than 4km from the airport, you’ll find these handy self-catering apartments with everything you need for a quick Muscat stopover. Not only can you enjoy the ease of being close to the airport but you’re also only a 5-minute drive to the beach.

Nowhere more so than by the rooftop pool surrounded by palms – bliss! The gym will allow you to work out any post-flight cramps and with three onsite restaurants, you’ll have plenty of choice.
Mysk Al Mouj Hotel – As you stroll outside of your hotel and past the Al Mouj waterfront, you’ll be hard-pressed to believe you’re a mere 5km from the international airport. You might be staying here for location convenience but there’s plenty to tempt you to extend your trip a little longer – an 18 hole golf course, a rooftop pool, sweeping views of the marina and plenty of tasty restaurants to lure you.
Kempinski Hotel Muscat – The Kempinksi might be close to the airport, but this five-star, award-winning beach resort is a destination in its own right. The design is modern and stylish, with nods to the city’s Arabic roots, the two swimming pools will tempt you to take a dip and there’s even a bowling alley for those looking for a little fun. There are so many restaurants and bars, you’d need to stay a few days just to visit them all – and we recommend you try as many as you can because each has its own delicious and different offering.
