color: #808080;\"><em><span class=\"s1\">Shiraz tourism &#8211; Naranjestan garden<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"shrine-of-shah-e-cheragh\">Shrine of Shah-e Cheragh<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is, seriously, one of the most impressive religious complexes I have ever seen and the most important shrine in Shiraz. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here rest two of the brothers of Imam Reza, a Shia Imam who is buried in Mashhad, the holiest city in Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The complex is a bit hidden and, when you enter, you will be&nbsp;thoroughly checked. You need to leave your bag at the entrance and big cameras are not allowed; but you can only take pictures with your cell phone. Probably, these are the reasons why not many tourists visit the shrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally, all foreigners would get a guide for free but, to be very honest, I didn&#8217;t really like him, as he just showed me around very quickly and didn&#8217;t say much&nbsp;about the place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They claim that a tour guide is mandatory for non-Muslims but, if you insist, they will let you in by yourself. Bear in mind that some areas of the shrine are beyond non-Muslim boundaries, even though you can sneak in, as long as you don&#8217;t look like a tourist and wander around without a guide. Like most holy shrines, the entrance is free and, unlike in Shah-e Cherag, here you take in your camera and tripod without any problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Price: <\/strong>Free<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large wp-image-10337\"><picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/againstthecompass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/what-to-see-in-shiraz-1024x684.avif\" type=\"image\/avif\"><source srcset=\"https:\/\/againstthecompass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/what-to-see-in-shiraz-1024x684.jpg\" type=\"image\/jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/againstthecompass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/what-to-see-in-shiraz-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"What to see in Shiraz\" class=\"wp-image-10337\"><\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">What to see in Shiraz<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"persepolis\">Persepolis<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The top tourist attraction in Shiraz par excellence, Persepolis was the ceremonial religious hub (or ceremonial capital) of the First Persian Empire in the 7th century B.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By that time, the Persian Empire was the greatest in the world, therefore Persepolis could have been called the center of the world in that century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nowadays, it\u2019s an impressive ruined complex and one of the top touristic attractions you will see when you <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/againstthecompass.com\/en\/travel-to-iran-ultimate-survival-guide\/\">travel in Iran<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Persepolis is actually around 70 kilometers from Shiraz, next to a city called&nbsp;Marvdasht. You can try to go there by public bus, for very little money, but a one-way taxi only costs around 10USD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most taxi drivers will tell you to pay a round-trip and wait for you at the entrance for two hours. However, unless you get a super deal, there is no need to do this, as there are, literally, hundreds of taxis waiting at the exit of the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just remember that Persepolis is a pretty ruined place, so having an expert telling you about the stories behind each stone is a significantly different experience. It costs 25USD and it includes transportation, entrance fee and tour.
